What are three types of aptitude?
There are three major types of aptitude.
1. Numerical reasoning
A numerical reasoning test is an assessment that measures a person’s numerical aptitude and their ability to interpret, analyse and draw conclusions from data sets. The test is usually timed with multiple-choice questions based on charts, tables or graphs. Unlike the usual maths tests, which demonstrate a student’s ability to learn and apply mathematical techniques based on a set syllabus, numerical reasoning tests reflect how successfully a candidate can apply numerical understanding in a realistic context. Though the common elements of numerical reasoning test are General arithmetic, percentages, fractions and averages , its main focus is statistical information. Candidates are required to work with graphs, tables and charts to identify key facts and figures, and apply the correct logic to form an answer in response to a worded question. Numerical reasoning tests help to narrow down the selected pool of candidates In a competitive job market. Numerical reasoning tests are also a good measure of how well an individual works under pressure. Employers want to know that you can perform well in any given circumstance, and since these assessments are timed, they demonstrate your ability to interpret data and draw accurate conclusions at speed.
2.Logical ability
A logical reasoning test tend to measure one's ability to interpret information, apply logic to solve problems and draw relevant conclusions. It's typical format will be non-verbal and multiple-choice type. It requires the use of rules and deduction to reach answers, rather than prior knowledge. Most of the employers use logical reasoning tests to filter applicants, most commonly in the pre-interview stages of selection. Logic forms a fundamental part of day-to-day decision making. Our reasoning capabilities determine how effectively we interpret the world around us, and how we use what we know to be fact to inform our choices. As such, logical reasoning is a vital part of many job functions. Logical reasoning in turn evaluates how well you’re likely to perform tasks like strategy development, risk assessment and forecasting, as well as general problem solving.
3.Verbal ability
A verbal reasoning test aims at assessing one's ability to make deductions from text. The format is typically a written passage followed by a statement, and you must decide whether the statement is true, false or that you cannot say. They evaluate your understanding of language and level of verbal comprehension and logic. Verbal reasoning tests are psychometric tests which are designed in such a way to reveal a candidate’s language and comprehension skills, and their ability to apply reasoning and logic. In other words, verbal reasoning tests may help to provide a more level playing field for applicants from all backgrounds. However, a verbal reasoning test is likely only to form one part of a wider selection process, and your performance in all areas will be taken into consideration by the employer.
